[How to Practice] Rieding Violin Concerto in G Major, op.24 first movement -1-
How to practice: mm. 124-127
Step 1: We need to recognize this passage in this section is based on a chromatic scale. Let’s play only the circled notes, first. There is only one section which is not a half step. Can you tell where?
The answer is at m.126 B and C#. They are a whole step apart.
The recording is A=441, circled notes only, going up 3 times, followed by going up and down 2 times in order to help your practice. 🙂
Step 2: Now, let’s look at all the notes. We need to know the relationships of the notes; where can you find half steps/whole steps? Let’s mark half steps.
Step 3: Then, play the notes without slurs under tempo. When you feel comfortable, you can try playing with slurs, and gradually go up to the tempo.
The recording is A=441, no slurs, quater note = 70 and 80 in order to help your practice. 🙂
How to practice: mm.132-137
First of all, we need to know they are arpeggios, which are broken chords. so we need to think as chords, rather than individual notes, ideally.
Step 1: Learn the notes by playing the individual notes without slurs.
Step 2: Let’s pay close attention to the relationships of finger placement.
I’m using half step markings when fingers are right next to each other.
Step 3: Practice playing two bottom notes as a double stop and top two notes as a double stop as you can see below:
Apply this idea to the whole section as the recording below:
Step 4: Practice as printed. I’m sure you feel much more comfortable with your left hand now. 🙂
******For the bow arm, we can practice as open strings as the recording below.******
You do not need to use too much bow, but keep good contact.
Let’s practice together !
