This is a wonderful introduction to the chromatic. The beginning students do not have many opportunities to play chromatic scales in pieces or etudes. Some students who was not exposed to it, had difficulty playing Wohlfahrt 60 Studies op. 45, no.54 Allegro, which contains some short chromatic scales in the first and the 3rd positions, so it is better to start sooner rather than later.
When you play half steps, you need to slide the fingers, rather than lifting.
Moderato means moderately, so you do not play too fast. Listen carefully and try to play in tune.
